ArticlePilot vs Outrank
Last updated: August 2026. Competitor details change; we verify this page against public pricing and product pages and date every claim.
Outrank is an established AI content tool and a fair comparison point: at $99 a month it produces 30 articles for one site, the same article volume as our $99 Pilot plan. The differences are in what you can see, what you control, and what we deliberately left out.
| As of August 2026 | ArticlePilot | Outrank |
|---|---|---|
| Price for 30 articles a month | $99/mo (Pilot plan), includes 10,000 keyword analyses and 5 sites | $99/mo, 1 site |
| Sites per plan | 2 on Starter ($39), 5 on Pilot, 15 on Scale | 1 site on the $99 plan |
| Keyword data source | DataForSEO-backed, plus live SERP snapshots per keyword | DataForSEO-backed |
| Per-keyword evidence display | Every keyword shows the SERP evidence behind its score: top 10, People Also Ask, AI Overview presence and citations, weak competitors | Scores are shown without a per-keyword evidence display |
| Difficulty scoring | Published formula you can read and audit | Formula not published |
| Content planning | Plan derived from an AI profile of your site, with clustered keywords and AI relevance gating | Calendar brainstormed through a chat interface |
| Approval and autopilot | Both: approve each draft, or switch a site to autopilot with a velocity cap | Not offered as a combined approve-or-autopilot workflow |
| Google Search Console | Striking-distance detection from your own GSC data | Not offered |
| Backlink building | No backlink exchange. We chose not to build one because Google treats link exchanges as link spam | Backlink exchange between customer sites |
| No website yet | Instant Blog: publish on your own subdomain in minutes | Requires an existing site to publish to |
| Trying it out | Free trial with 3 article credits, no card required | Trial available; user reviews as of August 2026 report difficulty getting refunds |
Where Outrank is a reasonable choice
Outrank ships real articles on a schedule, uses DataForSEO for its keyword data (as we do), and its chat-driven calendar is a quick way to get topics on the board. If you run exactly one site and want volume with minimal setup, it does that job.
Where we differ on evidence and control
ArticlePilot shows the evidence behind every keyword call: the live top 10, People Also Ask questions, whether Google shows an AI Overview and who it cites, and a difficulty formula that is published rather than a black box. You can approve every article before it ships, or put a site on autopilot with a weekly cap. As of August 2026 Outrank displays scores without the underlying per-keyword evidence, and does not offer that approve-or-autopilot choice. The same $99 also covers 5 sites here rather than 1.
About the backlink exchange
Outrank includes a backlink exchange that links customer sites to each other. Google's spam policies list "excessive link exchanges" as link spam, which can hurt the sites involved. We decided the risk sits with the customer, not the tool, so ArticlePilot does not build links this way. Our roadmap for off-site visibility (disclosed placements) is published and works without link schemes.
Switching from Outrank?
The trial includes 3 article credits and full keyword analysis, no card required, so you can compare output side by side before you decide anything. Your existing content stays where it is.
